Measure to Represent Whole Numbers and Decimals on Number Lines (60 minutes)
Participants will explore how students can apply base-10 measurement strategies on number lines to represent whole numbers and decimals (tenths and hundredths). At the end of this session, there will be a brief exploration of how these basic measurement strategies from grades 3-5 are applied to represent negative integers, fractions, and decimals in grades 6-8.

Equivalent Fractions and Common Denominators on Number Lines (60 minutes)
Participants will explore how students can apply number line measurement strategies to make sense of the procedures for generating equivalent fractions and fractions with common denominators. Participants will explore how skip counting and multiplication can be applied to basic equivalent fraction strategies on number lines to justify these more advanced strategies. Finally, equivalent fractions and common denominators will be applied to make sense of adding two fractions with like denominators.
